About Alex

Alexander Papp is a 22 year old composer who holds a scholarship to study composition at the Royal Academy of Music with Phillip Cashian and Rubens Askenar.
Previously studying composition with Gary Carpenter at the Academy, he studied with Brian Elias and Simon Speare at the Purcell School of Music and previously with Emma-Ruth Richards and Paul Whitmarsh. He was a composer with the NYO in 2019 and was an associate composer with the Britten Sinfonia Academy in 2016/17.
Alex was the 2020 Rushworth Composition Prize recipient at Liverpool Philharmonic. He has recently written for London Chamber Orchestra (LCO New) performed in September 2022.
His work has been performed at Wigmore Hall, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall with Ensemble 10/10, St. John’s Smith Square, St James Church, Paddington, Kings Lynn Festival, St John’s Church, Waterloo, The Deal Festival, The New Auditorium, Glasgow, The Fitzwilliam Museum and West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge.
Summer courses he has attended include the Advanced Composition Course with Nico Muhly at Dartington Music Summer School and he was invited to observe the 4th International Young Composers Academy Ticino Musica with Oscar Bianchi and Francesca Verunelli.
